Car Accidents in New Jersey
Car accidents remain one of the most frequent causes of injury across New Jersey. According to data from the New Jersey Department of Transportation, tens of thousands of injury-causing collisions occur on state roadways each year. While some result in minor scrapes, others leave individuals facing long-term consequences. You can find more traffic safety resources and accident data on New Jersey’s official website.
For those affected by car crashes, knowing what steps to take afterward can be overwhelming. Below are common causes of vehicle accidents that frequently occur across the state:
- Distracted Driving: One of the leading causes of crashes, distracted driving includes anything from texting behind the wheel to eating or adjusting the radio. Even a few seconds of diverted attention can lead to a serious collision.
- Speeding: Driving over the posted speed limit reduces a driver’s ability to react in time and increases the severity of injuries in a crash. Speeding remains a factor in a large portion of New Jersey’s fatal accidents.
- Impaired Driving: Operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol significantly impairs judgment and reaction time. Despite continued enforcement and awareness efforts, impaired driving continues to be a serious issue on New Jersey roads.
- Poor Weather Conditions: Rain, snow, and fog can all increase the risk of accidents, especially when drivers fail to adjust their speed or vehicle handling accordingly. Slippery roads and low visibility add another layer of danger.
- Failure to Yield or Obey Signals: Many intersection accidents occur when drivers ignore stop signs or signals or fail to yield the right-of-way. These violations can lead to dangerous side-impact collisions.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a crash, calling a car accident attorney should be a priority. Speaking with an attorney early allows victims to understand their rights, collect important evidence, and pursue compensation for their medical bills and lost income. Delaying legal action may limit your options and make it harder to prove fault or damages.
