Federal trucking regulations set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration control how many hours a driver can be on the road, how a truck must be maintained, and what qualifications a driver must hold. A violation of any of these rules can become central evidence in a Bergen County truck accident claim.
When a truck accident results from a regulatory violation, such as a driver exceeding hours-of-service limits or a company skipping required vehicle inspections, injuries tend to be severe due to the size of the vehicles involved. Common outcomes include spinal damage, broken bones, and head trauma that can require long-term treatment and time away from work.
Reviewing a truck accident claim commonly means looking into electronic logging device records, maintenance logs, and driver qualification files to see whether federal rules were followed. A truck accident lawyer can work through this type of documentation to help identify whether a regulatory violation played a part in a crash and what that could mean for a person's claim.
Federal trucking rules can shape how a Bergen County claim comes together after a crash like this one. If you have been involved in a New Jersey truck accident, we can review the available evidence on your case and walk you through what legal avenues may be open for you.
