Two Killed in Rollover Wreck on Rte 55 in Gloucester Co., NJ

July 6, 2026

Gloucester County, NJ (July 6, 2026) – On Sunday night, July 5, a car rolled over on Route 55 south in Gloucester County. The crash left two people dead.

The New Jersey State Police said 22-year-old Ayzia J. Toledo of Bristol, Pennsylvania, was driving a BMW near mile marker 57.1 around 10:55 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle. The car left the left side of the roadway, flipped, and struck a tree.

Toledo and her front-seat passenger, 22-year-old Henrietta F. Carter of Darby, Pennsylvania, were killed. A third occupant riding in the back seat was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Police have not released further information about what caused Toledo to lose control. The wreck remains under active review by investigators.

Our condolences go out to the families of both young women.

What Happens After a Fatal Rollover Crash in Gloucester County, NJ?

Families affected by a fatal rollover on Route 55 typically have two years from the date of death to file a claim under the New Jersey Wrongful Death Act.

Beyond the immediate loss, surviving family members usually face funeral and burial costs, loss of the deceased's future income, and loss of companionship, all of which can be pursued under New Jersey's Wrongful Death Act.

In fatal crashes, a companion claim called a survival action can also be filed to recover any pain and suffering the victim experienced between the crash and death, and a wrongful death lawyer can help distinguish which damages fall under each type of claim.

Establishing what caused a single-vehicle rollover, such as speed, road conditions, or a mechanical failure, frequently requires early evidence gathering, including vehicle data and scene photographs, before that evidence is lost. It is important to note that New Jersey follows a modified comparative negligence rule, which means any fault attributed to a driver can reduce or bar a family's recovery if that share reaches 51 percent, so a clear factual record matters early in the process.

At Metro Law, we can answer those questions from families trying to understand their options after a fatal crash in New Jersey. Every case involves different facts, and we can help explain how wrongful death and survival claims apply to a specific situation.

You can reach Metro Law at (800) 469-6476 to discuss what happened and what steps may be available under state law. We're available to listen and help however we can.
