Anyone involved in a two-car crash should call for emergency units, take photos of vehicle positions and damage, and get contact information from any witnesses before leaving the area.
Injuries from a crash can vary widely depending on the point of impact, since the height and weight difference between vehicle types usually means more severe outcomes for the smaller car's occupants. Even when injuries seem minor at first, conditions like whiplash or internal bruising can take a day or more to fully present.
New Jersey follows a modified comparative negligence rule, which, in other words, means that an injured driver can still recover compensation as long as they're found 50% or less at fault for the crash, though insurers will often scrutinize details. A car accident lawyer can be useful in gathering dispatch records and witness statements early, before that kind of evidence becomes harder to track down.
