Car Accidents in New Jersey

Car accidents in Newark remain a pressing issue, especially at intersections that see heavy traffic like South Orange Avenue and Fairmount Terrace. These areas are especially dangerous when drivers act carelessly or fail to follow traffic laws. In many cases, collisions happen because of preventable errors that place both motorists and pedestrians at risk.

The most common causes of car accidents in Newark include:

  • Distracted driving – Texting, adjusting navigation, or focusing on passengers instead of the road can lead to devastating consequences. Even a momentary distraction can prevent a driver from noticing a red light or a pedestrian in the crosswalk.
  • Speeding – Exceeding the speed limit gives drivers less time to react to sudden changes in traffic. Higher speeds also make collisions more forceful, increasing the severity of injuries.
  • Failure to yield – Many crashes occur when drivers ignore stop signs, signals, or crosswalk rules. These violations often lead to side-impact or pedestrian accidents that result in serious harm.
  • Impaired driving – Alcohol and drug use remain the leading causes of crashes in New Jersey. Impaired drivers have slower reaction times and poor judgment, making them more likely to cause severe accidents.
  • Poor weather and road conditions – Rain, snow, and reduced visibility create additional risks, especially at night. Drivers who fail to adjust their speed and caution to conditions often put everyone around them in danger.

The aftermath of a serious accident can be overwhelming. Victims may face emergency medical care, long hospital stays, rehabilitation, and months of lost income. Some injuries qualify as catastrophic injuries, leaving permanent physical or emotional damage that requires lifelong care.

When negligence plays a role in a crash, victims have the right to pursue compensation. A skilled New Jersey personal injury lawyer can help recover damages for medical expenses, lost wages, emotional distress, and more.
