Pedestrian Accidents in New JerseyPedestrian Killed in Crash on Black Horse Pike Near Rte 50

Pedestrian accidents are among the most devastating roadway incidents in New Jersey, often resulting in severe or fatal injuries. Areas like Hamilton Township, with busy roadways, can be especially dangerous for pedestrians, particularly at night when visibility is reduced.

According to the New Jersey State Police, hundreds of pedestrians are injured or killed each year in traffic collisions across the state. Many of these incidents occur because drivers fail to yield, become distracted, or drive too fast for conditions. Sadly, even cautious pedestrians can become victims in these situations.

Common causes of pedestrian accidents include:

  • Distracted driving, such as texting behind the wheel. When drivers divert their attention to a phone or another device, even for a moment, they can fail to see pedestrians crossing the road.
  • Speeding or reckless driving in high-traffic areas. Excessive speed reduces a driver’s reaction time, making it difficult to stop or avoid hitting a person who suddenly enters the roadway.
  • Failing to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks. Many drivers ignore crosswalk rules, endangering pedestrians who assume they have the right of way.
  • Poor lighting or visibility conditions. Dim streetlights or dark clothing can make pedestrians nearly invisible to drivers, increasing the risk of nighttime collisions.

When a pedestrian accident results in a fatality, the victim’s loved ones may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim with the help of a wrongful death lawyer. This legal action can help cover funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional suffering. In cases involving serious injury, victims may also seek compensation for medical costs, rehabilitation, and lost wages.
