Pemberton Twp., NJ – Teen Killed, Four Hurt in Crash on W Lakeshore Dr
Pemberton Twp., NJ (March 31, 2025) – Late Saturday night, a high-speed crash in Pemberton Township turned tragic, claiming the life of a 19-year-old passenger and injuring four others. Authorities say the single-vehicle accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on March 29 as a vehicle headed northbound on West Lakeshore Drive.
According to police, the juvenile driver lost control of the car, which then veered off the right side of the road near Broadway. The vehicle spun, striking a guide wire, a tree, and a utility pole before coming to a stop. Tymeria Nelson, a 19-year-old from Princess Anne, Maryland, was seated in the rear-right passenger seat. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The middle rear-seat passenger was critically injured, suffering internal trauma, including liver damage. That individual was rushed to a local hospital for emergency care. The driver, a juvenile, along with a 20-year-old front-seat passenger and another person in the back, sustained minor injuries. They were also transported for medical evaluation. Investigators are still working to determine the factors that led to the crash. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Pemberton Township Police Department as the investigation continues.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Tymeria Nelson and also hope the injured individuals recover fully.
Car Accidents in New Jersey
Car accidents continue to be a leading cause of injury and death across New Jersey. According to the New Jersey State Police, more than 600 people lost their lives in traffic collisions across the state in 2023 alone. High-speed crashes, like the one reported in Pemberton Township, are among the most dangerous, often leaving little room for recovery or evasive action.
These tragic collisions bring up important conversations about driver safety and how such incidents affect victims and families. Here’s a closer look at the common causes behind high-speed crashes:
- Speeding: Traveling above the speed limit drastically reduces the amount of time a driver has to react to hazards. It also increases the force of impact during a crash, which can lead to more serious injuries or fatalities.
- Inexperienced Drivers: Young or unlicensed drivers may lack the training or maturity to handle high-speed situations safely. Mistakes like overcorrecting, misjudging curves, or losing control are common in these scenarios.
- Distracted Driving: Phones, conversations, or even loud music can take a driver’s focus off the road. At high speeds, even a moment’s distraction can result in a catastrophic crash.
- Road Conditions: Poor lighting, wet pavement, or uneven road surfaces can increase the chance of losing control. Curved roads and narrow lanes further contribute to the risk, especially at night.
- Vehicle Malfunctions: Tire blowouts, faulty brakes, or mechanical failures can all lead to a loss of control, particularly at high speeds. Regular vehicle maintenance is essential for safety.
