SUVs Collide on Rte 50 in Ballston, NY, Trapping Driver

August 12, 2026

Ballston, NY (August 12, 2026) – One person suffered potentially serious injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Monday morning, August 10, on Route 50 at Kasey Pass in Ballston.

The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office responded to the collision at approximately 7:43 a.m. A 2014 Honda CR-V traveling south on Route 50 attempted to turn left onto Kasey Pass when it collided with a northbound 2004 Ford Explorer, according to the preliminary investigation.

The Ford Explorer struck a ground wire, overturned several times, and came to rest in a ditch. The driver was trapped inside and required extrication before being taken by ambulance to Albany Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of potentially serious injuries. No other occupants were inside the Ford.

The Honda CR-V struck a fire hydrant, and its driver was transported to Saratoga Hospital for apparently minor injuries.

The Sheriff's Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.

We wish a swift recovery to both drivers.

How Does New York's Comparative Negligence Law Affect Crash Claims?SUVs Collide on Rte 50 Trapping Driver

New York follows a comparative negligence system, which means an injured person can potentially recover damages even if that person is found partly responsible for a collision. However, the amount recovered is reduced in proportion to the injured person's share of fault. This makes determining how each driver's actions contributed to a crash an important part of a potential injury claim.

In a collision that involves a left turn, the evidence surrounding the turn can become particularly important. Investigators may examine the vehicles' final positions, damage patterns, roadway conditions, traffic controls, witness accounts, and other available evidence to determine what occurred immediately before impact.

The severity of the injuries can also affect the damages involved in a claim. A person with serious injuries can face hospitalization, follow-up treatment, rehabilitation, lost income, and other financial consequences.

New York personal injury claims can include economic losses such as medical expenses and lost earnings, as well as compensation for pain and suffering when supported by the circumstances and applicable law. A car accident lawyer can examine the crash evidence and the medical consequences to determine how comparative negligence may affect a potential recovery.
