The intersection remained partially blocked for a short time before vehicles were cleared and traffic resumed. Authorities are still piecing together what led to the crash.

Car Accidents in New Jersey
Car crashes are one of the most common emergencies across New Jersey. From major highways to residential intersections, accidents can happen anywhere. In 2022, the state recorded over 60,000 injury-causing crashes, with many occurring in Ocean County alone. Neighborhood intersections, in particular, are frequent sites of collisions due to stop sign violations, distracted driving, and visibility issues.
Here are some of the most common contributing factors behind residential intersection crashes:
- Failure to Yield Right of Way: One of the leading causes of intersection crashes is drivers failing to yield, especially at stop signs or when turning left. In residential communities, drivers may become too comfortable and overlook right-of-way rules, leading to collisions.
- Limited Visibility: Trees, parked cars, and homes close to the roadway can make it difficult to see other vehicles at intersections. Drivers should come to a complete stop and creep forward slowly to ensure the way is clear.
- Speeding Through Neighborhoods: Many people underestimate the risk of driving slightly above the speed limit on neighborhood roads. Even going 10 mph over can make it impossible to stop in time if a car pulls out or a pedestrian crosses unexpectedly.
- Distracted Driving: Phones, conversations, and even GPS devices can draw a driver’s attention away from the road for just long enough to cause a crash. In quiet residential zones, drivers might let their guard down, but the risk is still high.
- Improper or Rolling Stops: Many residential crashes happen when drivers do not come to a full stop. Rolling through a stop sign may seem harmless but can lead to serious accidents when other drivers or pedestrians are present.
