Co-op City, NY – Woman Killed, Two Injured After Car Crash on Bartow Ave

Co-op City, NY (April 22, 2026) – A tragic crash on Tuesday, April 21, left one woman dead and two others hurt after a car struck a bus stop bench. The accident happened just after 1:30 p.m. on Bartow Avenue.

New York Police said a red car drove into a bench where several people were sitting and waiting for a bus. The impact caused severe injuries to a 72-year-old woman identified as Ramonita Colon, who died at the scene.

Emergency units arrived and found two other victims hurt. A 36-year-old man who sat at the bench and a 55-year-old man from the vehicle both suffered injuries and were taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as people rushed to help those involved. Authorities have not confirmed what caused the driver to lose control.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
