Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Dover: A Growing Concern
Pedestrian accidents, especially fatal ones, remain a significant safety concern across New Jersey, and Dover is no exception. According to the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, pedestrian fatalities accounted for 30% of all traffic-related deaths in the state in 2023. In Dover, the number of pedestrian accidents has been rising, as urban sprawl and increasing vehicle traffic create more dangerous conditions for pedestrians. Recent reports indicate that Dover has experienced a troubling rise in pedestrian fatalities over the past five years, with 2024 already surpassing the number of pedestrian deaths recorded the previous year. This trend underscores the urgent need for enhanced safety measures, such as improved crosswalks, better lighting, and stricter traffic laws to protect vulnerable pedestrians.
