Truck Accidents in New York
Traffic accidents are unfortunately common in New York, leading to numerous injuries and fatalities each year. Tens of thousands of accidents are reported annually in the Empire State, resulting in thousands of deaths. Nationwide, traffic collisions claim approximately 40,000 lives per year. Many of these tragic incidents are preventable and occur due to negligent driving behaviors such as intoxication, distraction, fatigue, and speeding.
Commercial truck accidents are often much more severe than other types of traffic collisions due to the sheer size and weight of these massive vehicles. The results can be especially catastrophic when a large commercial truck and a smaller passenger vehicle collide, especially for the smaller vehicle’s occupants. Truck drivers and other drivers need to remain sober, awake, and alert while behind the wheel to avoid injurious and fatal accidents from occurring. Unfortunately, negligent driving is common among truck drivers, who often have to drive long distances in short amounts of time.
Common Forms of Negligent Driving:
- Intoxication: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs leads to over 10,000 fatalities annually in the United States.
- Distraction: Distracted driving is responsible for more than 400,000 crashes each year.
- Fatigue: Fatigued driving causes over 100,000 accidents annually.
