Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey

Gloucester City, NJ – Pedestrian Fatally Struck on Rt 130 RampPedestrian accidents continue to pose serious risks in New Jersey. According to state data, hundreds of pedestrians are killed or injured each year. While infrastructure improvements have helped in some areas, pedestrian fatalities remain an ongoing concern, particularly on high-speed roads and highway ramps. Drivers and pedestrians alike are urged to remain vigilant when navigating busy intersections and access roads.

Here are several common injuries that result from pedestrian-related incidents:

  • Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs): Pedestrians struck by vehicles are at high risk of head trauma. These injuries range from concussions to life-altering brain damage, often requiring prolonged rehabilitation and ongoing medical care.
  • Spinal Cord Injuries: Spinal injuries can occur when victims are thrown upon impact or pinned by a vehicle. In severe cases, this may result in partial or complete paralysis, which significantly alters a person’s quality of life.
  • Fractures and Broken Bones: Broken legs, ribs, arms, and pelvic fractures are common in pedestrian crashes. These injuries typically lead to surgeries and extended physical therapy before a full recovery is possible.
  • Soft Tissue Damage: Damage to ligaments, tendons, and muscles can be just as limiting as broken bones. Victims often experience chronic pain, stiffness, or loss of range of motion, which can impact everyday tasks.
  • Psychological Trauma: Surviving a pedestrian accident is often emotionally distressing. Anxiety, PTSD, and depression are not uncommon and may persist long after physical injuries have healed.
