Car Accidents in Hudson County

Accidents on the New Jersey Turnpike, especially in Hudson County, are a persistent issue due to the area’s heavy traffic and congestion. In 2023, New Jersey saw over 550 fatal crashes and more than 70,000 total incidents. Hudson County, home to cities like Jersey City and Bayonne, faces a higher frequency of accidents because of its proximity to major bridges and the dense traffic coming from New York City. Rush hours and holiday seasons typically see a surge in collisions, as the roads become increasingly congested.

In particular, crashes involving trucks make up about 25% of all accidents in the county. The New Jersey Turnpike, with its fast-moving lanes and high truck traffic, remains one of the most dangerous highways in the state. In 2023, Hudson County experienced over 2,000 accidents on the New Jersey Turnpike alone, with around 20% of these resulting in injuries. The rise in accidents over recent years highlights the ongoing risks faced by drivers in this region.

The leading causes of these accidents are speeding distracted driving, and impaired driving. Despite increased law enforcement and public safety campaigns, these factors continue to contribute to the high accident rate. Officials urge drivers to remain vigilant, follow speed limits, and avoid distractions to reduce the number of crashes and injuries.
