Greenwich Village, NY (December 18, 2024) – An injury pedestrian crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of W 3rd St and Mercer St, leaving a pedestrian in critical condition. The New York Police Department (NYPD) and Emergency Services responded to the scene at approximately 3:08 p.m.

According to the NYPD, a black Ford Fusion with tinted windows hit a pedestrian while evading police. The impact left the pedestrian unresponsive, suffering severe head trauma and a broken leg. EMS personnel promptly arrived at the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition.

The suspect’s vehicle, last seen heading south on Mercer St, was later found abandoned on Prince St between Broadway and Thompson St. Aviation units, patrol officers, and transit teams coordinated efforts to locate the suspects, who fled west on foot. Witnesses reported seeing two individuals: one wearing a red hoodie with a small black Nike logo and black sweatpants, and the other described as a Black male in a black sweater.

The NYPD initiated a Level 1 Mobilization to secure the crash site and manage the ongoing search. Traffic in the area was heavily disrupted as officers, with assistance from the Fire Department, worked to control the situation and clear the scene.
