Hackettstown, NJ (January 29, 2025) – A fatal pedestrian crash occurred on Wednesday morning on Route 46 in Hackettstown, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The crash, reported by the Hackettstown Police Department, took place at approximately 10:52 a.m. when a 2018 GMC Canyon veered off the road and hit the pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk near the CVS Pharmacy on Main Street. The driver of the vehicle, a 61-year-old man from Flanders, was also transported to Hackettstown Medical Center for a medical evaluation.  

According to the Hackettstown Police Department, the victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was rushed to Hackettstown Medical Center but was later pronounced dead. The police have withheld the victim’s identity pending family notification. The driver’s condition is currently unknown.  

The authorities closed down Route 46 between West Stiger Street and Valentine Street for several hours as emergency personnel, including the Hackettstown Fire Department, worked to manage the scene. The fire department assisted in the extraction of the vehicle from the crash site. Ambulances transported both the driver and the pedestrian to the hospital. The police department was assisted by the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, Hackettstown Detective Bureau, Independence Township First Aid Squad, Saint Clare’s Paramedics, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation in their investigation of the incident.
