New York Pedestrian Accidents

Every year, numerous individuals end up losing their lives due to serious pedestrian accidents in New York. These crashes usually have a huge impact on families who are forced to endure overwhelming and sometimes debilitating financial and emotional turmoil. Oftentimes, pedestrians lose their lives due to the negligent actions of motorists. Some drivers choose to act carelessly and recklessly while behind the wheel which leads to millions of traffic accidents per year. In fact, distracted driving is the leading cause of auto accidents throughout the country today.

Every year, more than 400,000 traffic collisions happen due to the actions of distracted drivers. The most common form of driver distraction is texting and driving. Over half of the drivers in the United States admit to texting and driving. Inattention due to using a cell phone, talking to passengers, or other distractions may lead to a driver failing to see a pedestrian in the roadway until it is too late.

Intoxicated driving, whether drivers are influenced by drugs or alcohol, may also pose a severe threat to the safety of pedestrians. Drunk and high drivers often have trouble staying in their own lane, safely turning, and stopping at intersections. Consequently, numerous pedestrians end up losing their lives due to drivers who operate their vehicles while impaired.

Additionally, drivers who do not yield the right of way to pedestrians continuously cause fatal accidents in New York. Whether drivers are running red lights, speeding, or failing to stop at crosswalks, they continue to put pedestrians at risk for severe injuries or worse.
