Harlem, NY (March 20, 2026) – One person died and several others suffered injuries after a chaotic crash Thursday night, March 19, on West 125th Street in Harlem. The incident occurred near the well-known Apollo Theater along a busy stretch where delivery workers often gather.
The New York Police said the accident happened shortly after 8 p.m. A 49-year-old man drove a red Hyundai Tucson along West 125th Street when he lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV struck two delivery workers who were riding bicycles along the corridor. One of the cyclists died from injuries at the scene, while the second suffered critical injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Authorities said the vehicle continued forward after the first impact. The driver hit an unoccupied police car and then struck two parked vehicles along the street.
The SUV then crossed the roadway and crashed into a tractor-trailer. The chain-reaction crash created a chaotic scene along the busy Harlem corridor.
Three other people also suffered injuries in the collision. Police said two men, ages 28 and 23, sat inside a parked sedan when the crash occurred. Both of them suffered minor injuries, meanwhile a third person also reported minor injuries.
Witnesses in the area described the crash as sudden and frightening. One nearby delivery worker said the driver appeared to lose control before striking the cyclists and crossing the street.
Emergency units responded quickly and began assisting the injured victims. Paramedics evaluated those hurt in the accident and transported the seriously injured cyclist to the hospital.
Officers took the driver into custody at the scene. Authorities had not filed charges as of Friday morning. They continue to investigate the crash and review the circumstances that led to the deadly incident.
