Washington Township, NJ (June 18, 2026) – Several young adults were hurt Wednesday evening, June 17, after a hit-and-run driver struck their SUV on the northbound Garden State Parkway, and as a result, forced the vehicle into a guardrail.
The crash happened at 6:45 p.m. near Washington Avenue. The Audi Q3 the group travelled in was disabled by the force of the impact. Emergency units tended to those inside, and a rig from a local hospital was among those who arrived at the scene. The Audi was later towed from the parkway.
The driver that fled has not been identified. Injuries were described as minor. No further details about those hurt had been released at the time of this report.
New Jersey State Police continue to look into the circumstances of the crash.
We hope all those hurt make a quick and full recovery.

Victims of a hit-and-run still have legal options even when the driver who fled is never found. In New Jersey, your own auto insurance policy may be the first source of financial recovery. Uninsured motorist coverage, which New Jersey requires insurers to offer, can apply when an at-fault driver cannot be identified. This covers medical bills, lost wages, and other damages that result from the crash.
The Garden State Parkway through Bergen County is one of the busiest corridors in the state, and the stretch near Washington Township sees consistent high-speed traffic during evening commute hours. When a vehicle is struck in a high speed road, even injuries that seem minor can mask deeper soft tissue damage or delayed symptoms that become apparent in the days that follow.
Beyond an uninsured motorist claim, a car accident lawyer can also explore whether any traffic or surveillance footage captured the fleeing vehicle, whether witnesses provided descriptions to state police, and whether any partial plate information was reported. These details can sometimes lead to identification of the at-fault driver, which opens the door to a direct liability claim.
In a successful hit-and-run claim, compensation may cover a range of losses depending on the facts of the case. Medical expenses are typically among the damages that can be pursued, along with lost income if injuries prevented someone from working. Pain and suffering, emotional distress, and costs related to vehicle repair or replacement may also factor into what a claim is worth.
