Understanding how crashes impact lives helps us consider the factors involved. Here’s a closer look at common causes of car accidents:

  • Distracted Driving: This includes texting, adjusting the radio, or talking with passengers. Even a few seconds of inattention can result in a serious crash, especially at high speeds or intersections.
  • Speeding: Driving above the posted limit or too fast for conditions reduces the time drivers have to react and increases the severity of collisions. It remains one of the top causes of roadway fatalities.
  • Driving Under the Influence: Alcohol or drugs impair reaction time, coordination, and decision-making. Despite public awareness campaigns, DUI remains a significant problem in New Jersey traffic accidents.
  • Poor Weather Conditions: Rain, snow, and fog can all contribute to loss of control. Reduced visibility and slick roads demand slower speeds and more cautious driving habits.
  • Failure to Obey Traffic Signals: Running red lights or stop signs often leads to T-bone collisions, which are particularly dangerous due to limited protection from the sides of a vehicle.
