Mantua Township, NJ (May 29, 2023) – An 8-year-old child has died as a result of a fatal accident that took place in Gloucester County on Saturday afternoon, May 27.

At around 1:45 p.m., the New Jersey state police responded to the scene of a crash on Route 55.

Reports from authorities indicate that a Subaru was attempting to pass other vehicles while utilizing the center grass median and left shoulder of Route 55 along the northbound side of the road. As the vehicle proceeded forward, it crashed into a Honda, and the driver lost control.

The Subaru traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck an overpass before catching on fire.

An 8-year-old boy involved in the accident suffered fatal injuries. The victim was pronounced deceased as a result of their injuries. Another child into adults suffered injuries in the crash. The three victims were transported to area hospitals.

The police shut down the roadway for over six hours as they worked to clear the scene and investigate.

At this time, investigations are underway.
