Rochester, NY – Pedestrian Dies in Crash at Dewey Ave & Driving Pk Ave
Rochester, NY (August 19, 2024) – A car accident on the northwest side of Rochester on Friday night, August 16, resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. at the intersection of Dewey Avenue and Driving Park Avenue.
Police responded to reports of a crash and discovered that a vehicle had veered off the road, striking a pedestrian before crashing into a nearby storefront. The pedestrian, identified as 36-year-old Lafayama Chapman, was immediately transported to Strong Memorial Hospital. Sadly, despite medical efforts, Chapman succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning.
Upon investigation, authorities determined that the crash was triggered by a white Honda colliding with a gray Kia. The impact caused the Kia to lose control, hitting Chapman and subsequently the building. The driver of the Kia remained at the scene and was charged with driving while intoxicated. Over the weekend, police successfully located the Honda involved in the crash.
