Newark, NJ (October 23, 2024) – An injury pedestrian crash occurred on Wednesday morning outside Arts High School in Newark, resulting in injuries to two art teachers. The incident, reported by local authorities, took place just after 10:30 a.m. on MLK Blvd, where numerous educators were attending a professional development seminar.
According to witnesses, a gray van disregarded a stop sign at Mercer St, colliding with a white Hyundai on MLK Blvd. The impact caused the van to jump the curb, striking a pedestrian and subsequently hitting another woman seated on a ledge. Thankfully, public school students were off that day for staff development, with only a few present working on extra credit projects.
Both injured women are art teachers at East Ward Elementary. One remains in critical condition, while the other is currently in surgery. Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene, with ambulances transporting the injured parties to nearby hospitals. The drivers of both vehicles were also hospitalized but are expected to recover.
