Does Auto Insurance Cover Pedestrian Injuries After a Crash in New Jersey?Pedestrian Injured After Van Crash Near Bergen St

Yes, auto insurance can often cover pedestrian injuries after a crash in New Jersey. The state uses a no-fault insurance system, which means personal injury protection (PIP) coverage may help pay for medical treatment regardless of who caused the accident. In many cases, a pedestrian’s own auto insurance policy provides this coverage first. If the pedestrian does not have auto insurance, coverage may come from the driver’s policy.

Pedestrian accidents can lead to serious injuries because people have little protection during a crash. Common injuries include broken bones, head injuries, leg trauma, and internal injuries. Some symptoms appear immediately, while others may develop hours later. Medical evaluations help doctors identify injuries early and create documentation that supports ongoing treatment.

New Jersey’s no-fault system focuses on covering medical expenses through insurance policies. PIP coverage may help pay for hospital visits, rehabilitation services, and other treatment costs related to the accident. However, coverage limits and policy details can vary, which sometimes creates questions about what expenses insurance may cover.

When a pedestrian suffers injuries in a crash, documentation often becomes important. Medical records, crash reports, and witness statements can help explain how the incident occurred. Keeping these records organized can make it easier to understand insurance claims and any additional options that may be available.
