Trenton, NY – Three Hurt in Two-Vehicle Crash Involving Patrol Vehicle on Rte 12

Trenton, NY (February 17, 2026) – On Sunday, February 15, a two-vehicle crash on Route 12 left three people hurt and remains under investigation. Deputies responded around 8:20 p.m. to Route 12 near Route 28 in the Town of Trenton for a reported injury accident involving a marked patrol vehicle.

Authorities said a deputy had been conducting stationary traffic enforcement while parked in a lot off the west side of the roadway, facing south.

Investigators reported that the deputy entered the roadway to initiate a traffic stop on a northbound vehicle. At that time, the marked 2025 Ford Explorer reportedly collided with a 2015 Honda Civic. Officials identified the Honda’s driver as 20-year-old Mariah Depan of New York Mills, who was traveling southbound when the crash occurred.

Depan was taken by ambulance to Wynn Hospital with complaints of pain. Her passenger, 22-year-old Jace Diehl, also of New York Mills, and the 23-year-old deputy were evaluated at the scene and later released.

Both vehicles sustained damage and were towed. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the collision.

We extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them a rapid and total recovery.

If you are involved in a crash with a patrol vehicle in New Jersey, you should seek medical attention, ensure a report is filed, and document the scene as thoroughly as possible. Even when injuries seem minor, a medical evaluation helps identify hidden issues and creates important records.

In addition, clear documentation supports both insurance claims and any further review.

Crashes involving law enforcement vehicles can raise unique questions. Government vehicles often operate under specific policies, and claims may follow different procedures than standard car accidents.

In New Jersey, cases involving public agencies can include notice requirements and shorter filing deadlines, so acting promptly can help preserve your available options.

Injuries after this type of collision may include head trauma, neck strain, back injuries, or soft tissue damage. Some people notice soreness hours later. Keep copies of medical records, repair estimates, and communication with insurers to make the process more organized and manageable.

A car accident attorney can review official reports, explain applicable deadlines, and outline what types of compensation may be available. Legal guidance can clarify how claims involving government vehicles differ from other accident cases.
