Newark, NJ (February 7, 2025) – An injury pedestrian crash occurred early Wednesday morning, February 5, in Newark’s Central Business District. The incident took place at approximately 12:12 a.m. at the intersection of McCarter Highway and Market Street, a busy area near downtown Newark.

According to Newark Police, a 911 caller reported the accident, and first responders arrived shortly after. The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released, was found with serious injuries. Emergency medical services (EMS) transported the individual to University Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead due to the severity of their injuries.

The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted while police investigated the scene, and fire personnel assisted in clearing the vehicles to allow for the safe reopening of lanes.
