North Amityville, NY – 2 Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision on Schleigel Blvd Near Columbus Blvd

North Amityville, NY (December 29, 2025) – Two people suffered injuries following a serious two-vehicle collision on Sunday night, December 28, in Suffolk County on Long Island. The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Schleigel Boulevard near Columbus Boulevard in North Amityville.

According to Suffolk County police, a 28-year-old man drove a Jeep Cherokee southbound on Schleigel Boulevard at the time of the incident. For reasons still under review, the Jeep crossed into the northbound lanes. The vehicle then struck a Volkswagen traveling in the opposite direction.

The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles. Emergency responders arrived to find the Volkswagen heavily damaged. The driver, a 34-year-old man, suffered serious injuries in the collision. A 28-year-old female passenger riding in the same vehicle sustained injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening.

Fire crews worked quickly to extricate both victims from the wreckage. Paramedics transported them to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials did not release additional information about their conditions.

The Jeep Cherokee driver did not report injuries at the scene. Police confirmed that one vehicle came to rest in the front yard of a nearby home, narrowly missing the structure. The second vehicle stopped in front of a local church following the collision.

Authorities later impounded both vehicles for safety inspections and further evaluation. Investigators continue to examine the events that led to the crash as part of an active investigation.

We wish the injured victims a full and steady recovery.

Car Accidents in New York2 Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision on Schleigel Blvd Near Columbus Blvd

Car accidents remain a serious concern across New York, especially on local roads where traffic patterns change quickly. Two-lane roadways often see head-on or crossover collisions, which tend to result in severe injuries. These crashes can happen suddenly and leave little time for drivers to react.

Several factors may contribute to serious car accidents in residential areas:

  • Lane departures, which can occur due to distraction, fatigue, or loss of control
  • Speeding on local roads, where drivers may underestimate stopping distance
  • Driver inattention, including momentary distractions behind the wheel
  • Poor visibility at night, which reduces reaction time
  • Roadway design, especially narrow lanes without dividers

Head-on and crossover crashes often lead to traumatic injuries. Victims may suffer broken bones, head injuries, internal injuries, or spinal damage. Recovery can require surgery, physical therapy, and extended time away from work. These challenges often place emotional and financial stress on injured individuals and their families.

After a serious crash, an experienced car accident lawyer can help review police findings, evaluate fault, and explain what options may exist for pursuing compensation. This support becomes especially important when injuries are severe and medical costs continue to grow.

Those injured in car accidents may be eligible to seek compensation for medical bills, rehabilitation expenses, lost income, and pain related to their injuries. In some cases, claims may also address future care needs or long-term limitations caused by the crash.
