Queens, NY – Fatal Crash Involving Coffee Truck on 19th Ave & 42nd St

Astoria, Queens, NY (August 12, 2025) – A devastating crash in Astoria, Queens, on Tuesday morning, August 12, claimed the lives of three people after a Toyota Corolla slammed into a coffee truck parked at 19th Avenue and 42nd Street. The crash occurred just after 8:30 a.m. when the vehicle, reportedly speeding, crashed into the truck and struck two men standing nearby.

The 84-year-old driver of the Toyota Corolla, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities also confirmed the deaths of two male pedestrians, aged 41 and 70, who were standing near the coffee truck. The 41-year-old was declared dead at the scene, while the 70-year-old was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Eyewitnesses described the vehicle as speeding before the crash, with one witness estimating the car was traveling at over 60 miles per hour. After the initial impact with the coffee truck, the Toyota spun around and collided with a Volvo sedan, which was attempting a U-turn.

The food cart’s owner, Giancarlo Caruso, shared his close call, saying he was just closing up shop when he heard the screeching tires. Caruso was unharmed, as the crash totaled his truck but spared his life.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the cause of the crash.
