How Long Do I Have to File a Car Accident Claim in New Jersey?
In New Jersey, you have two years from the date of a car accident to file a personal injury claim. This time limit, known as the statute of limitations, applies in many injury cases. Acting within this period helps preserve the ability to seek compensation through the legal system.
Deadlines can vary depending on the situation. For example, claims involving public entities may require notice within a much shorter timeframe. Missing these deadlines can limit available options, which is why early review of the case details often helps clarify what steps apply.
After a crash, people may deal with medical bills, time away from work, and ongoing treatment needs. Injuries can range from minor soreness to more serious conditions that require follow-up care. Keeping records of medical visits, expenses, and insurance communication can make it easier to understand how recovery and financial impacts connect.
A car accident lawyer can help organize documents, review timelines, and explain how state laws apply. They can also outline what types of compensation may be available based on the circumstances. This may include medical costs, lost income, and other related losses, depending on the case.
