New Jersey Car Crashes
In New Jersey, pedestrian collisions occur more frequently than they do in other states. The North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority reports that the lives of over 175 pedestrians were cut short in one recent year. This number excludes several hundred pedestrians who suffered non-fatal injuries when they were hit by negligent drivers. Unfortunately, over 50% of reported pedestrian crashes in the United States happen due to the negligent actions of drivers who are either distracted, intoxicated, speeding, or fatigued.
If a beloved member of your family has been hurt by a negligent driver, you may be entitled to bring legal action against the negligent party who caused the crash. While pedestrians are sometimes also at fault for their accidents due to distraction, jaywalking, intoxication, or another form of negligence, most of the time, drivers are the ones who cause injurious or fatal pedestrian accidents.
Preserving the safety of pedestrians has become a huge issue throughout the state of New Jersey, so much so that the NJTPA created a program called Street Smart. This program was created in order to inform individuals about pedestrian awareness and safety in an effort to reduce the number of collisions.
Pedestrians travel totally unprotected against the force of fast, large vehicles. This means that when they are traveling, they are risking obtaining severe and sometimes even catastrophic or fatal injuries. On average, in the United States, more than 7,000 pedestrians end up losing their lives per year due to auto accidents. Unfortunately, more than half of these crashes are caused by the negligent actions of drivers.
