Catskill, NY (May 20, 2026) – A motorcycle and a car collided at Route 32 in the town of Catskill on Monday night, May 18, and left two people seriously injured. New York State Police responded just after 9:15 p.m.
Troopers arrived at the scene and found the motorcycle’s operator, 64-year-old Ronald Edwards of Durham, and his 40-year-old passenger both suffering life-threatening injuries. Both riders were ejected in the collision. The driver of the car was not hurt.
Edwards and his passenger were each flown to Albany Medical Center in separate helicopters. According to a preliminary investigation, the motorcycle had been traveling northbound on Route 32 when the southbound car attempted a left turn into a driveway and struck the motorcycle.
No further details about those involved in the accident had been made public at the time of publication. The investigation remains active, with troopers continuing to examine the circumstances of the crash.
We hope both Ronald Edwards and his passenger make as full a recovery as possible.
What Compensation Can Victims Recover After a Motorcycle Accident in Catskill, NY?
Victims of motorcycle crashes in New York roads may be entitled to significant compensation when another driver’s negligence caused the collision. Recoverable damages typically fall into two broad categories: economic losses such as medical bills, rehabilitation costs, and lost wages; and non-economic losses such as pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of enjoyment of life. In New York, those injured in a motorcycle accident can pursue a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver.
People thrown from a motorcycle in a collision may face months or years of medical treatment. Traumatic brain injuries, spinal damage, broken bones, and internal trauma are common outcomes when riders are ejected and strike the pavement at speed.
The cost of emergency airlifts, surgeries, and long-term rehabilitation can climb quickly, and victims who cannot return to work may also face prolonged loss of income. Documenting every medical visit, procedure, and related expense from the earliest possible moment strengthens any future claim.
A motorcycle accident attorney can review the police investigation findings, gather evidence from the scene, and assess the full scope of a victim’s losses. New York follows a pure comparative negligence rule. That is to say that a person can still recover compensation even if they are found partially at fault. Legal guidance can help evaluate how that rule applies to the specific facts of a crash and what the realistic range of recovery might look like.
