Washington Township, NJ (March 31, 2026) – A man from Mantua was arrested after a crash involving a stolen tow truck left multiple people injured on Monday afternoon, March 30, in Washington Township. The incident happened around 1:49 p.m. at the intersection of Delsea Drive and Salina Road.
Police said a tow truck operator had stopped near a Dollar General store to load a vehicle onto a flatbed. While the driver worked, a man entered the truck and drove away, causing the operator to fall and suffer injuries.
Authorities reported that the suspect then drove into oncoming traffic and hit two vehicles head-on. Both drivers in those vehicles were hurt and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The suspect fled on foot but officers later located and arrested him.
Officials stated that signs at the scene suggested possible impairment, and a warrant was issued for a blood test. The suspect now faces several charges, including carjacking, motor vehicle theft, assault by auto, and driving while intoxicated.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
We hope those injured recover as quickly as possible.
How does car crash insurance in New Jersey work when it’s not your fault?
In New Jersey, car insurance often follows a “no-fault” system, which means your own insurance typically pays for medical expenses after a crash, even if you did not cause it. This coverage, known as Personal Injury Protection (PIP), helps cover initial medical costs regardless of fault.
Even when another driver caused the accident, PIP coverage usually applies first for injuries. After that, additional claims may be possible depending on the situation and the type of insurance policy involved.
New Jersey drivers may choose different coverage options, which can affect whether they can pursue certain claims beyond basic medical benefits.
Injuries from multi-vehicle crashes can include head trauma, fractures, and soft tissue damage. Medical care, follow-up visits, and time away from work can create financial strain. Keeping records of treatment, bills, and communication with insurance companies can help show how the accident affected daily life and recovery.
A car accident lawyer can help review insurance policies, explain coverage limits, and outline what options may be available. They can also assist with organizing documents and understanding how New Jersey laws, including the two-year statute of limitations, may apply to a case.
