Who is Liable If a Passenger is Hurt in a New York Crash?

In New York, passengers injured in a crash may have the option to seek compensation from the driver responsible for the accident. In many cases, liability depends on who caused the crash, and passengers are often not held responsible for what happened. New York also follows a no-fault insurance system, which allows injured passengers to first turn to insurance coverage for medical expenses and basic losses.
Passengers involved in crashes may experience a range of injuries, even in single-vehicle incidents. These can include head injuries, back pain, or cuts from impact or debris. Some symptoms may not appear right away, which is why medical evaluations play an important role in identifying and documenting injuries early.
In some situations, more than one party may share responsibility for a collision. For example, factors like road conditions or vehicle issues may be reviewed as part of the process. Looking at all available evidence helps provide a clearer picture of how the crash happened and who may be accountable.
A car accident lawyer can help review the facts of the crash and explain how liability laws apply in New York. This may include examining police reports, medical records, and insurance policies to better understand what options may be available. Legal guidance can also help clarify how compensation may work for medical bills, lost wages, and other related costs.
