Brooklyn, NY (April 3, 2026) – A 44-year-old woman lost her life after a hit-and-run crash involving an ambulance on Thursday, April 2, in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. Emergency units responded to the intersection of Avenue O and Ocean Avenue around 6:38 a.m. after reports of a pedestrian being struck.
The New York Police Department said the woman attempted to cross Ocean Avenue when an ambulance traveling west on Avenue O turned left onto Ocean Avenue. The vehicle struck her during the turn and continued southbound without stopping. Video footage later showed the moment of impact and the ambulance leaving the scene.
Paramedics rushed the woman to Maimonides Medical Center with severe injuries. Despite medical efforts, she died at the hospital shortly after the incident.
Officials confirmed the vehicle involved was a private ambulance operated by Maimonides Medical Center. Representatives stated that two EMTs connected to the incident were suspended while the case remains under review.
