Woman Critically Hurt in Pedestrian Crash on Terry Rd in Geddes, NY

July 21, 2026

Geddes, NY (July 21, 2026) – A woman in her 60s is in critical condition after she was struck by a vehicle early Monday morning, July 20, near West Granger Road and South Terry Road.

Deputies with the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office responded to the report shortly after 5 a.m. They arrived to find the woman injured in the roadway.

She suffered a traumatic head injury along with other trauma to her body, the Sheriff's Office said. She was taken to Upstate Downtown Hospital, where she remains hospitalized.

The driver stayed nearby, called 911, and gave aid to the woman until emergency units arrived. The driver has cooperated with detectives throughout the investigation.

South Terry Road was closed for several hours on Monday while evidence technicians processed the roadway, reopening to traffic by noon. No names have been released as detectives continue reviewing the accident, and the investigation into how it happened remains active.

Our thoughts are with the woman and her family as she continues her recovery.

What Are a Driver's Legal Responsibilities After Hitting a Pedestrian in Geddes, NY?

Woman Critically Hurt in Pedestrian Crash on Terry Rd

In New York, a driver who strikes a pedestrian must stop, remain nearby, and provide reasonable assistance, then report the wreck to police, which the driver in this case reportedly did.

New York follows a pure comparative negligence rule under CPLR 1411, in which an injured pedestrian's compensation can be reduced by their own share of fault, but never barred entirely, even if they were partly responsible for what happened.

Pedestrians struck by vehicles can face head trauma, fractures, and long recovery periods that can include surgery, physical therapy, and extended time away from work. Medical bills can accumulate quickly, especially when hospitalization stretches for days or weeks, and some injuries may require ongoing monitoring long after initial treatment ends.

In these cases, a pedestrian accident lawyer can help victims gather police reports, medical records, and witness statements to build a clear picture of what happened. A lawyer can also communicate with insurance adjusters on a client's behalf, which can ease pressure during an already difficult recovery.

In pedestrian cases that involve serious injuries, legal guidance can help clarify what types of compensation may be available under New York's no-fault and personal injury laws.

At Metro Law, we know that recovering from a serious pedestrian wreck can raise questions about medical bills and next steps. Therefore, our team can help explain what legal options may be available under New York law for you and your case.
