Road Rage Crash Sends Car Into Building on Fulton St in Brooklyn, NY

July 8, 2026

Brooklyn, NY (July 8, 2026) – A pedestrian and two drivers were hospitalized late Tuesday, July 7, after an apparent road rage dispute ended with one vehicle slamming into a Bedford-Stuyvesant building on Fulton Street. The collision happened just after 11:15 p.m.

The New York Police Department said a black Cadillac driven by 56-year-old Anthony Hayes struck a dark-colored BMW driven by 43-year-old Robert Walker. The force pushed the BMW into a nearby building, damaging a yoga studio inside.

A 20-year-old man walking nearby was struck by one of the vehicles during the wreck. All three people, including both drivers, were taken to Kings County Hospital and listed in stable condition.

Both drivers were arrested at the scene. Walker faces charges including vehicular assault, criminal mischief, and running a red light. Hayes faces a longer list of charges, including vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.

The investigation into this wreck remains active.

Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian and both drivers as they recover.

Why Do Road Rage Crashes Lead to Both Criminal and Civil Cases in Brooklyn, NY?Road Rage Crash Sends Car Into Building on Fulton St

Because criminal charges and a civil injury claim serve different purposes under New York law, one does not replace the other. An arrest after a crash can address public safety and hold those arrested accountable to the state, while a separate civil case would let anyone injured by their actions seek compensation directly from the drivers involved.

A civil claim connected to a crash usually waits on the criminal case's outcome before settlement talks move forward, particularly when a guilty plea or verdict could strengthen the injured parties' position.

The injuries in a multi-vehicle, multi-victim crash can vary widely depending on where each person was positioned when the vehicles collided. A pedestrian struck outside a vehicle often faces a longer hospital stay than someone seated with a seatbelt on, and it's not unusual for softer injuries, like nerve damage or lingering back pain, to surface well after the initial hospital visit.

While victims wait for pending criminal charges, a car accident lawyer can help make sure police reports, hospital records, and witness statements are preserved before memories fade or evidence changes hands.
