Elderly Couple Critical After Rollover Crash at South Broadway in Red Hook, NY

Red Hook, NY (July 13, 2026) – An elderly Hudson Valley couple remains in critical condition after a serious two-vehicle crash sent all three people involved to the hospital on Friday morning, July 10.

The Red Hook police said the wreck happened around 11:02 a.m. on South Broadway across from Prince Street. A 75-year-old man from Elizaville was driving south with his 75-year-old wife when he is believed to have had a medical emergency behind the wheel.

Police said the couple's Ford crossed the double yellow line, traveled along the sidewalk, and struck a rock wall before colliding with a Toyota driven by a 52-year-old woman from Rhinebeck. The force of the impact sent the Ford airborne before it rolled onto its roof.

A police officer who came upon the wreck moments later called for help and, with the aid of several bystanders, pulled the couple from the overturned SUV and put out an engine fire within about two minutes. 

The husband and wife were taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital in critical condition, while the Toyota driver was taken to Northern Dutchess Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

South Broadway was closed for over an hour while investigators gathered evidence. The investigation remains active.
