Two Seriously Hurt in Crash on W. Naples St in Wayland, NY

August 18, 2026

Wayland, NY (August 18, 2026) – On Sunday afternoon, August 16, a car left the road and struck a house on West Naples Street. Two people were seriously hurt as a result of the accident.

The New York State Police were called to the roadway, also known as State Route 63, around 2:42 p.m. Investigators said a Honda traveling eastbound failed to navigate a curve, crossed into the westbound lane, and left the road before hitting several trees and a house.

The driver was taken to Noyes Memorial Hospital. The passenger was taken directly to Strong Memorial Hospital. Both women sustained serious injuries.

Police said the driver was not wearing a seat belt, while the passenger was. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation into this collision remains active.

We hope both women recover fully from their injuries.

How Fault Rules Apply to an Injured Passenger in Wayland, NY

Two Seriously Hurt in Crash on W. Naples St

An injured passenger in New York generally does not need to prove who caused a crash the way a driver might. Under the state's no-fault insurance system, a passenger can typically seek coverage for medical bills through personal injury protection (PIP) regardless of who was at fault.

When a passenger's injuries exceed what no-fault coverage provides, New York's comparative negligence rules can come into play, but they apply differently to a passenger than to a driver.

Since a passenger typically bears little to no responsibility for how a crash happened, their potential fault is rarely a factor, even if the driver is found partly responsible.

A car accident lawyer can help a passenger understand which driver's policy may apply and how to pursue compensation beyond PIP limits.

After a crash, passengers can face a lot of uncertainty when it comes to the next steps. At Metro Law, we work with car accident victims across New York to help them walk through the legal journey while fully understanding their options.

If you have any questions after being involved in a car accident, you can contact Metro Law at (800) 469-6476 to speak directly with our team and learn more. We are available to help clarify your legal options.
