July 29, 2026

Vernon Township, NJ (July 29, 2026) – Two Vernon Emergency Medical Services crew members were hurt Sunday afternoon, July 26, when their ambulance was involved in a collision on Lake Wallkill Road. The ambulance was responding to a call for service at the time.

The Vernon Township police said the wreck happened around 2:50 p.m. Both were evaluated at the scene and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lake Wallkill Road was temporarily closed afterward while crews completed repairs to the roadway. It has since reopened to traffic.

No additional details about the accident were confirmed as of this report. The Vernon Township Police Department said the investigation remains active.

We hope for a full recovery of both EMS crew members.

What Happens When a Public Ambulance Crash Occurs in Vernon Township, NJ?

When a Vernon Township ambulance is involved in a roadway incident, New Jersey's Tort Claims Act limits how and when injured parties can seek compensation. Anyone hurt in this situation generally has 90 days to file a formal notice of claim against the township before pursuing a lawsuit.

Meeting the Tort Claims Act deadline is only part of building a claim. New Jersey follows a modified comparative negligence rule, in which if a person is found more than 50 percent responsible, they cannot recover damages, so early documentation matters.

A car accident lawyer can help gather police reports, medical records, and witness statements before evidence becomes harder to obtain, particularly when a public agency is involved.

Even injuries described as non-life-threatening can carry lasting consequences. Soft tissue damage, fractures, and lingering pain often surface days after a wreck and can affect a person's ability to work or complete daily tasks. Medical evaluations, follow-up visits, and physical therapy can add financial strain long after the initial hospital visit.

At Metro Law, we understand how confusing these public entity claims can feel. Our team can review the notice requirements and deadlines that may apply to your case. We can also help explain what types of compensation may be available, given the specific facts involved.
