Berkeley, NJ – Four-Vehicle Crash Involving Truck Leads to Injuries on Atlantic City Blvd

Berkeley, NJ (July 20, 2023) – Around 7 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, July 19, a four-vehicle collision with injuries occurred on a major roadway in Berkeley.

According to Berkeley Township Police, the accident happened at 441 Atlantic City Boulevard (also known as Route 9) at a shopping plaza near Frederick Drive. Police confirmed that 57-year-old Todd Giglio was traveling south in a Blue Rhino Propane truck when he suddenly suffered from a medical episode. He went through the red light without stopping, striking a silver Hyundai Tucson. The Tucson was struck head-on and was pushed into a telephone pole, causing the air bags to deploy.

From there, the Blue Rhino truck jumped the curb and entered the shopping plaza. It collided with a stationary Chevy box truck, causing the truck to roll over. It then drove over a median and collided with two unoccupied vehicles, identified as a Jeep Laredo and a Ford Expedition. It then slammed into a Chicken Holiday building before coming to a stop, leading to extensive damage.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Hyundai sustained a chest injury but did not go to the hospital for treatment. Giglio was taken to the hospital by EMS crews, though his condition is not yet known.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for some time, which led to delays.

No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.

We offer our warmest sympathies to those injured in this accident with hopes of a full recovery.
