New York Traffic Collisions
Motorcycle collisions are common in the state of New York and throughout the country. The most prevalent cause of motorcycle collisions in New York, presently, is motorists who do not yield the right of way to motorcyclists. Usually, drivers forget to check their blind spots when they change lanes or they become distracted by their cellphones or some other thing or person inside their vehicle. When things like this occur, it is basically impossible for motorcyclists to react in a timely manner in order to avoid a crash. These types of wrecks are always caused by drivers who are negligent.
Statistics gathered by the New Jersey government outline the reality that more than 50 motorcycle accidents occurred in the state in 2018 that took the life of the biker. These collisions and other non-fatal crashes involving motorcyclists happened for numerous reasons. Approximately 50% of all motorcycle collisions occur at intersections. Actually, roughly 70% of all motorcycle crashes are the result of drivers who fail to see the motorcyclist.
While a portion of motorcycle wrecks are definitely the result of amateur bikers or problems navigating problematic curves in the roadway, a far more noteworthy rate of collisions are the result of drivers who are negligent on the road.
For example, numerous motorcycle accidents are caused by motorists who drive while intoxicated. However, most are caused by those who operate passenger vehicles. Even though alcohol is a common contributor in severe motorcycle crashes in New Jersey, it is just one of many causes.
Similar to alcohol, speeding is a common reason motorcycle crashes occur. If the driver of a passenger car is traveling at an unsafe speed, they may be held responsible for their carelessness. If a motorcyclist is also speeding, it may be considered a contributor to the crash, however, it may not be the defining cause.
Other recurrent causes of motorcycle wrecks that occur in the US and across New York include traffic violations such as texting and driving, failing to stop at a stop sign, or failing to yield the right of way.
