Bronx, NY – Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on Cross Bronx Expy Near Jerome Ave

Bronx, NY (April 16, 2026) – A man lost his life in a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles on the Cross Bronx Expressway early Thursday, April 16. The accident happened overnight on the southbound side near Jerome Avenue in the Tremont area.

New York State Police said the crash involved a tractor-trailer and two passenger vehicles. Investigators reported that a Kia SUV had stopped in the left lane for reasons that remain unclear when a tractor-trailer struck it.

Moments later, a Toyota Corolla approached and crashed into the rear of the tractor-trailer. The 30-year-old man driving the Corolla suffered severe injuries and died following the impact.

Emergency units responded to the scene and assisted those involved. The driver of the Kia SUV and a passenger in that vehicle were taken to a hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.

Authorities temporarily shut down part of the expressway while they investigated the crash and cleared the scene. Officials have not confirmed what caused the initial stop in the roadway. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim and wish a full recovery to those injured.

Key Evidence to Preserve After a Serious Crash in New YorkFatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on Cross Bronx Expy Near Jerome Ave

After a serious crash in New York, key evidence includes photos of the scene, vehicle damage, medical records, police reports, and witness information. Preserving these details early can support insurance claims and help clarify what happened while the facts are still fresh.

Key evidence often includes photos of the vehicles, road conditions, and any visible injuries. Police reports also play an important role, as they document statements, positions of vehicles, and initial findings. Witness contact information can help confirm what happened, especially in multi-vehicle accidents where events unfold quickly.

Medical records are another critical part of the process. People may need emergency care, imaging, or follow-up visits after a collision. Keeping copies of bills, prescriptions, and treatment notes helps track recovery and connects injuries to the crash. Some symptoms may appear hours or days later, making continued documentation important.

A car accident lawyer can help review collected evidence and explain how it may apply to a claim. They may assist with organizing documents, communicating with insurance companies, and outlining what types of compensation could be available. Legal guidance can also clarify deadlines and next steps based on the situation.
