Clifton, NJ (April 3, 2026) – A Clifton police officer was injured after being struck by a vehicle while assisting a disabled car on Wednesday, April 1. Emergency units responded to the scene around 9:38 p.m. on Route 21 near Route 46 following reports of a crash involving multiple vehicles.
Authorities said the officer was helping a motorist whose vehicle had broken down along the roadway. Traffic slowed in the area due to congestion from the disabled vehicle. During this time, two merging vehicles collided at a low speed.
One of the vehicles, a Honda Civic driven by a 24-year-old woman from Saddle Brook, then struck the officer and the disabled car. The officer was standing beside the vehicle when the impact occurred.
The officer suffered a lower leg injury in the crash. Paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment and was later released.
Clifton Police confirmed that all drivers involved remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police issued the driver of the Honda Civic a summons for careless driving and failure to yield the right of way.
