Liability for Structure Fires in New York

Brooklyn, NY - Three Civilians, One Firefighter Injured in House Fire on 55th St

Some of the main causes of residential fires in New York include:

  • Faulty appliances
  • Outdated electrics
  • Cracked or improperly installed gas lines
  • Blocked chimney flues
  • Defective boilers or furnaces

After a residential fire, it is essential to verify if the action or inaction of a third party played a part in the cause of the fire or an occupant’s inability to flee to safety.

Some common elements that a New York burn injury lawyer will investigate are whether or not :

  • The manager or owner of the property adhered to all current building, fire, and safety protocols
  • Vents and fireplaces were satisfactorily maintained
  • Proper fire safety supplies and tools were on site
  • Fire doors were in use
  • Fire escapes and exits were unrestricted and working
  • Firewalls were correctly built and positioned
  • Smoke detectors were properly installed, tested, and functioning

If it is determined that a fire or the inability to safely respond to one was caused by a third party, you might have a legitimate claim against the negligent individual or company.
