Job Site Injuries in New Jersey
New Jersey law states that the general contractor of a construction project has a duty to maintain safe working conditions. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for contractors to abandon the safety of their employees for increased profits, leaving construction workers to deal with hazardous working conditions.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics said that there were just under three million workplace illnesses and injuries in 2016, a reduction of 48,500 victims from the previous year.
The construction trade has the highest number of workers who sustain serious and fatal injuries in the United States. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, almost 1,000 construction site deaths took place in 2016. Out of over 5,100 total workplace deaths, one-fifth were construction workers, making up around 21% of the fatalities.
