Commack, NY – Julio Monteiro Killed in Crash on Veterans Memorial Hwy near Jericho Turnpike
Commack, NY (March 13, 2023) – A pedestrian lost their life in a fatal traffic accident on Wednesday night, March 8. At approximately 10:39 p.m., police responded to the scene on the Veterans Memorial Highway.
Reports state the incident occurred on the highway just east of Jericho Turnpike when Julio Monteiro, 63, of Valley Stream, was hit by a vehicle. The vehicle was identified as a westbound 2015 Kia Soul that struck him while he was headed south on the highway.
Monteiro was pronounced deceased at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown. The Kia’s driver, a woman from East Northport, age 41, sustained no injuries in the accident.
Police impounded the Kia for a safety check. They continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
