Garbage Truck Overturns, Hits Pickup on Rte 70 in Manchester, NJ

Manchester, NJ (May 22, 2026) – A garbage truck was travelling at high speed when it overturned and struck a pickup truck Thursday morning, May 21. Three people were hurt in the accident. The crash occurred around 11:05 a.m. at the intersection of Route 70 and Green Acres Road, according to Manchester Township Police

Marquis Dove, 28, of Plainsboro, was driving a gray 2004 Mack garbage truck eastbound on Route 70 when he attempted to turn into the landfill entrance at 2498 Route 70. Dove applied the brakes mid-turn, lost control, and the truck rolled onto its driver’s side. The overturned vehicle then struck a Ford F-150 stopped at a nearby traffic light.

Dove was hurt but declined to be taken to the hospital. A passenger in the garbage truck, Harrie Garris, 58, of Toms River, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Community Medical Center.

The F-150’s driver, Bryan Bollhardt, 30, of Forked River, sustained minor injuries and also declined medical transport. A passenger in the pickup, Richard Bollhardt, 65, also of Forked River, was not hurt.

The investigation into this collision remains open.

We wish those injured a smooth recovery.

Can Passengers Seek Compensation After a Crash in Manchester, NJ?Garbage Truck Overturns, Hits Pickup on Rte 70 in Manchester, NJ

Yes. In New Jersey, passengers hurt in a crash are generally eligible to seek compensation, regardless of which driver was at fault. As a passenger, you are not considered responsible for causing the collision, which typically makes it easier to pursue a claim.

A claim may be filed against the at-fault driver, their employer, or both. It depends on the circumstances of every crash.

Manchester Township sits along one of Ocean County’s busiest commercial corridors. Route 70 carries heavy truck traffic through the area, connecting with roads like Route 571, County Road 527, and the stretch leading toward the Garden State Parkway interchange.

Large commercial vehicles regularly operate along these routes, and crashes that involve them tend to cause more serious harm to people in smaller passenger vehicles due to the size and weight differences involved.

When a commercial driver is involved, additional legal questions arise. A truck accident attorney can help passengers understand who may be liable and what documentation could support a claim.

Passengers hurt in these collisions can face significant physical consequences. Injuries to the neck, back, chest, and head are common, particularly when a large vehicle rolls over or strikes another car at speed.

It is common that after a passenger is injured in a truck crash, they may have questions about liability and compensation. At Metro Law, we can help you explore your options under New Jersey law.
