Gloucester Twp., NJ – One Hurt in Truck Wreck on Sicklerville & Garwood Rds
Gloucester Township, NJ (March 10, 2025) – A crash involving a sedan and a tractor-trailer left one person injured early Saturday morning in Gloucester Township.
Authorities say the collision occurred around 2:19 a.m. on March 8 at the intersection of Sicklerville Road and Garwood Road in the Erial section of the township. Gloucester Township Police officers responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident and found a sedan wedged beneath the trailer portion of a tractor-trailer.
Both the driver and passenger of the sedan were able to exit the vehicle, but the passenger suffered a broken arm and multiple lacerations. Paramedics provided medical care at the scene before transporting the injured individual to a local hospital. Police confirmed that the drivers of both vehicles were not hurt.
In addition to the injuries, the crash resulted in a fuel leak from the tractor-trailer’s refrigeration system. Fire crews arrived and worked to stabilize the trailer and stop the diesel spill. Emergency responders remained at the scene for an extended period while clearing the wreckage. The crash remains under investigation by local authorities.
We hope the injured victim makes a full recovery.
Truck Accidents in New Jersey
Collisions involving large trucks can lead to severe injuries, especially when smaller passenger vehicles are involved. In New Jersey, thousands of accidents involving commercial trucks happen each year, with many resulting in hospitalizations and fatalities. Given the size and weight of tractor-trailers, even a relatively low-speed crash can cause serious damage.
When it comes to truck accidents, multiple factors can contribute to these crashes. Here are some common causes:
- Driver Fatigue – Long hours on the road can lead to exhaustion, reducing reaction times and increasing the risk of accidents. Despite federal regulations limiting driving hours, some truckers push beyond safe limits.
- Blind Spots – Large trucks have extensive blind spots, making it difficult for drivers to see smaller vehicles. Cars caught in these areas are at greater risk of being hit.
- Improper Cargo Loading – If a truck’s load is not secured properly, it can shift during transit, causing the driver to lose control or the cargo to spill onto the roadway.
- Brake and Tire Failures – Poorly maintained brakes and tires can cause a truck to lose control, making stopping difficult and increasing the likelihood of a collision.
- Weather Conditions – Rain, snow, and ice make operating a large truck even more challenging. Reduced traction and longer stopping distances contribute to a higher number of crashes in poor weather.
