Toms River, NJ (March 10, 2025) – A high-speed crash in Ocean County left two people dead and multiple others injured Friday night, authorities confirmed.
The tragic collision happened on March 7 at approximately 10:58 p.m. at the intersection of Route 37 and Route 166 in Toms River. According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, the crash involved a white BMW and a Toyota Camry.
The incident began when Toms River Police officers spotted the BMW speeding eastbound over the Thomas A. Mathis Bridge. The vehicle, which was later clocked at 118 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone, fled from officers attempting to initiate a traffic stop. Due to safety concerns, law enforcement chose not to pursue but continued monitoring the vehicle’s movements.
Minutes later, the BMW crashed into the Toyota Camry at the Route 37 intersection. The driver and front passenger of the Camry were pronounced dead at the scene. Two backseat passengers in the Camry sustained critical injuries and were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.
The juvenile driver of the BMW was uninjured and taken into custody. Two passengers in the BMW were also injured but later released from medical care. Authorities later confirmed that the driver of the BMW did not have a valid New Jersey driver’s license. Blood test results for impairment are pending. The juvenile now faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Manslaughter, Death by Auto, and Aggravated Assault. Investigations remain ongoing.
