Granville, NY – Stolen U-Haul Causes Serious Injury Crash on SR 22

Granville, NY (December 18, 2025) – A violent crash outside the village of Granville left two people seriously injured on Tuesday, December 16, after a stolen U-Haul collided with an SUV during a high-speed incident, according to the New York State Police. The crash occurred on State Route 22, roughly one mile south of the village.

Authorities said the U-Haul was driven by a man from Colorado who was allegedly fleeing Vermont law enforcement. After crossing into New York, the Granville Police continued monitoring the vehicle. Officials reported that the truck traveled through the village at speeds approaching 100 miles per hour. Officers followed at a safe distance but eventually lost visual contact.

Shortly afterward, police located the U-Haul after it had crashed into an SUV traveling southbound on State Route 22. The impact caused severe damage and left the SUV’s driver and sole occupant with critical injuries. Emergency crews airlifted that individual to Albany Medical Center, where they were listed in serious condition.

The driver of the stolen U-Haul also sustained injuries, though police said those injuries were not life-threatening. Emergency responders provided medical care at the scene before transporting the driver for further treatment. Authorities did not release the identities of those involved.

State Police continue reviewing the sequence of events leading up to the crash.

We wish those injured a full recovery after this serious collision.

Car Accidents in New YorkStolen U-Haul Causes Serious Injury Crash on State Rte 22

Severe car accidents like this one often leave victims facing sudden medical emergencies and long-term consequences. High-speed collisions dramatically increase the risk of traumatic injuries, extended hospital stays, and lasting physical limitations. When a crash involves criminal activity or reckless behavior, the legal and financial aftermath can become even more complex.

In serious injury cases, victims may be entitled to pursue several forms of compensation depending on the circumstances. Possible compensation may include:

  • Emergency medical treatment, hospital stays, surgeries, and ongoing rehabilitation
  • Future medical care related to long-term or permanent injuries
  • Lost wages from missed work and reduced earning capacity
  • Pain, suffering, and emotional distress caused by the crash
  • Costs related to mobility assistance or home modifications
  • Property damage to the vehicle involved

When a crash results from extreme recklessness, victims may also explore additional legal remedies. Insurance coverage issues often arise when stolen vehicles, commercial rentals, or multiple jurisdictions are involved. These factors can complicate claims and delay recovery if not handled carefully.

Working with an experienced personal injury attorney can help injured victims understand what compensation may be available. Legal guidance can assist with gathering evidence, reviewing police reports, coordinating with insurers, and protecting victims from unfair claim denials. Early action often helps preserve critical details that support a strong claim.
